Econet Uses Prizes to Entice Subscribers to Register Lines

Econet has started a new promotion to persuade subscribers to register their mobile lines. There have been concerns that mobile operators will not meet the POTRAZ August deadline and already Telecel has asked for a push of the deadline.

Econet, with four million subscribers in the bag, has chosen to do it differently. Subscribers who registers their lines stand a chance to win one of 3 Isuzu trucks, Nokia E66 handsets, and airtime.

POTRAZ itself last week gave notice to all phone users to register by August or risk disconnection. Econet is the largest mobile operator in Zimbabwe. Telecel, with just over a million subscribers, is the second largest. State owned NetOne trails the two with about 500,000 subscribers. NetOne has indicated that it already has all its subscribers registered.
