Event: Random Hacks of Kindness – hacking against corruption

Have you ever wanted to know how to develop mobile applications but don’t know where to start? Have you ever gotten frustrated by not being able to do anything about problems that are going on around us? Corruption for instance? Do you just want to have fun this weekend with geeks, braai and beers? Do you feel that there is not local content in the mobile app stores? Do you think that because we are continuously exposed to content that’s not ours, our culture is getting extinct? Do you want to do anything about it?

If the answer to any these questions is yes, then you need to consider attend the RHoK “Hacking Against Corruption” Hackathon this weekend. We have limited places so we’ll only be able to accept those who register in advance. You can secure your place on: http://rhok.org/event/harare-zimbabwe.

this is heart warming. hopefuly one day soon we can see tertiary institutions getting involved and fielding representatives/province, or any other structures to level the playing field /raise awareness and evenly distribute this rare and great opportunity…

This actually sounds like a really great event…even one worthy of some big name sponsorships. Hope it goes welll for those attending! And great street you’re hosting the event on..I know some pretty influential people that live there and maybe the hackers wll be inspired to work hard so that one day they may own a house in a place like that 🙂

This is singly the coolest thing I’ve seen in IT in Zim! Of course there’s also stuff like the Jumpstart challenges, but I like the implied social and indie vibe going on here.
