Venue and Transport
To those of you who aren’t hearing about his event for the first time, note that the venue has changed from Crowne Plaza to 8 Folyjon Road in Glenlorne. We shall provide transport to and from the city centre. Those attending will be picked up outside the National Arts Gallery so if you are attending, please be there between 7:00am and 7:30am this Saturday so that we can provide transport to the venue. If you happen to get there late, just call or SMS the following numbers and we’ll organize transport for you:

Prizes
Participants stand a chance to win the following prizes:
- A BlackBerry Z10 smartphone.
- An Android device. The type has not yet been confirmed at the time of writing but we’ll give you an update on that in the next day or two.
- A $500 cash prize.
- A trip to attend the BlackBerry Jam being held in Ghana next month

You’ll also walk away with
Skills to develop your own mobile applications for the biNu, BlackBerry and Android platforms. Each day will start with a 90 minute bootcamp to teach – even a novice, how to start developing for those platforms.
The hackathon will happen over two days. After these two days, you will walk away with skills to develop for both the biNu and the BlackBerry platforms. And you will walk away with working applications.

- Tea and snacks shall made available throughout the days and throughout Saturday night.
- Participants are also allowed to bring and share.
Event theme
The theme for this event shall be ‘Hacking against corruption’. It’s important to note that although we shall be encouraging hackers to build applications which fight corruption, hacker should not feel restricted to this theme. We’re not going to let the theme get into the way of creativity.
Event Program
The event starts off with a 90 minute bootcamp on Saturday to teach you how to develop for biNu. The hackathon starts shortly after and then we have a 5 minute dragons den pitch of biNu solution at the end of the day.
Throughout Saturday night, we’re having a graphics designing competition and the one with the best designs will walk away with $500 the following morning.

this is heart warming. hopefuly one day soon we can see tertiary institutions getting involved and fielding representatives/province, or any other structures to level the playing field /raise awareness and evenly distribute this rare and great opportunity…

wat abt chinhoyi university of Tech, how many were women what are the age demographics.. hopefully someone is looking at these and making the necessary adjustments to normalize distribution..(thts if it hasnt been already done)
This actually sounds like a really great event…even one worthy of some big name sponsorships. Hope it goes welll for those attending! And great street you’re hosting the event on..I know some pretty influential people that live there and maybe the hackers wll be inspired to work hard so that one day they may own a house in a place like that 🙂

This is singly the coolest thing I’ve seen in IT in Zim! Of course there’s also stuff like the Jumpstart challenges, but I like the implied social and indie vibe going on here.
