Top executives in Zimbabwe’s telecoms industry have just told Techzim that mobile license renewal talks between Telecel, POTRAZ and the ministry of Transport, Telecommunications and Infrastructural Development have been finalised.
The concluding talks took place today in Harare. Telecel, the sources tell us, has therefore now been licensed. The sources say an announcement will be made either today or tomorrow. it’s still not clear however how the indigenisation issue has been resolved.
The development brings to an end months of speculation, anxiety, and downright termination of some services in Zimbabwe’s telecoms space. With the license issues sorted, the Telecel and Econet interconnection dispute will also likely end.
According to our sources, along with the agreement on the license, is the possible payment of the first installment of the $137.5 million license fee to government.
We will be posting updates on the matter as we get them.

Someone is going to really, really and really get a run for their money!
Thank GOD for ECONET for sorting them out, its only fair they pay their license and are treated like the rest
Fanboys, smh
Thank you telecel now i can get back to enjoying you and your promotion as opposed to the abuse from ewz.
Good news, Telecel rocs!!
Let the games begin! !!
The unintended consequence of Econet disconnecting Telecel was the FREE marketing of the later.
Unfortunately the sheeple of Zimbabwe may not see it that way.

These people are abusing subscribers and POTRAZ the sector policeman must penalise them.
Wonder if the technical staff will be as efficient at reconnecting them as they were at disconnecting them. Interested to see how long it takes to get them back online.
I suspect next week we hear from telecel that econet are intentionally not connecting them and econet have a technical excuse about only having to comply after x time or cos of y difficulty.
Econet still wont connect because it was never about the license they just want to stop Telecel’s massive drive towards being the mobile network of choice, value and affordability. POTRAZ announced the licensing of Telecel yesterday but one and to date Econet is trying to figure out where the on button for inter-connectivity is!!!!
