The inaugural Zimbabwe Public Sector ICT Forum which is being hosted by the Ministry of Information Communication Technology Postal and Courier Services and sponsored by Huawei Zimbabwe was officially opened today at the HICC.
Speaking in the keynote address the guest of honour Vice President Joyce Mujuru commended the role ICT is meant to play in the country’s turnaround efforts, particularly as one of the pillars identified in the country’s ZIM ASSET economic blueprint.
She emphasised the importance of ICT in efficient service delivery, creation of partnerships and networks as well as integration of key strengths in Zimbabwe’s role in the new economy.
The main role of this forum has been to identify the role ICT can and should play in public sector transformation and turnaround. Huawei has come forward as a key player in this, as one of the country’s main partners in ICT projects. This is a consequence of strong Sino-Zimbabwe relations which have been displayed in participation in joint projects.
Huawei has been largely involved in ICT efforts through Netone and Telone, chief of which have been broadband service delivery. This area was referenced as a key determinant of ICT progression of ICT development by Huawei’s Vice President of Enterprise BG Marketing Solution Department, Mr Ken Zhao in the forum’s opening address.
The Public sector ICT forum is a one day event that is being used as a platform to engage stakeholders from public sector together with ICT representatives from Huawei to identify benefits and opportunities for ICT in public service delivery. Panelists are set to discuss ICT’s role in e-governance, e-education and soft infrastructure.

We hope something tangible and materially beneficial will come out of this.
The government needs to steam ahead with making themselves more digital. It will facilitate economic growth.
