TV YanguLocal Video On Demand startup TV Yangu was recently nominated for the 2014 Social Media Awards Africa. TV Yangu works as a video service that aggregates afro-centric content from Zimbabwe and other countries.

The Social Media Awards Africa identify noteworthy contributions in social media and digital media with contestants drawn from throughout the continent. They are meant as a platform to recognise and celebrate creativity in the way social media is used by individuals and organisations.

TV Yangu has been nominated for the Best Use of Social Media by A Start-up/MSME and it will be up against competition form Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania and Kenya. Oddly though, the panel that nominated TV Yangu listed the startup as a Kenyan company.

Together with TV Yangu, all these startups have been garnering for support from their various communities as the selection of winners has a voting process open to the public which is the stage where the selection is right now.

The voting window which opened last week will be closing on Friday 28 November which gives everyone a chance to throw their support behind TV Yangu. These votes will account for 50% of the cumulative scores with the other 50% coming from the judges’ evaluation.
