#Twimbos, by now some of you may have seen the ZRP Twitter account that had been active for the past few days and may have fallen for it, you’re just like the rest of us. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) seemed to be active on social media this week with a Twitter handle @ZRP_ZW. It seemed legit because of the posts that seemed to support the Police’s law abiding objectives. It turns out, the account is fake.

There’s a lot that’s wrong with this picture, because essentially someone has been doing social media for the cops. It wouldn’t be the first time a State related entity has been misrepresented on social media. The country’s power utility firm, ZESA, has an account that has been used for humorous posts.

I’m just surprised that ZRP is going to all these lengths to deny the fake account. Why not just create a real one, and start engaging with people through social media anyway. If  some police stations have been smart enough to get their numbers on WhatsApp, surely the entire Police force can handle (no pun) a Twitter and Facebook account?
