The shortlist for the 2015 World Communication Awards, an annual ceremony recognising achievement in global telecoms which accompanies the Total Telecom Festival has just been released. Douglas Mboweni, the CEO of Econet Zimbabwe is being considered for the event’s top honour, having been shortlisted for the CEO of the Year award.

Also nominated is Liquid Telecom which is part of the Econet Wireless Global Group. Liquid Telecom is vying for the best Wholesale Carrier Award, an honour which it also scooped earlier this year at the inaugural Total Telecom Africa Awards.

This year’s World Communication Awards, which are slated for the 1st of December and set to be held in London, are the 17th edition and over the years the ceremony has gained a reputation for being the most prestigious awards event for global telecoms.

As such, nominees like Mboweni and Liquid will be vying for top honours in categories that have telecoms service providers and executives from all over the world. Other CEOs nominated include Bob Collymore (Safaricom), Ahmad Julfar  (Etisalat), Timotheus Hoettges (Deutsche Telekom) and Dominique Leroy (Proximus)

Liquid Telecom, which has been recognised at other global awards ceremonies in the past  and was nominated for the same award a couple of years ago, will slug it out against other carriers like TeliaSonera International Carrier (last year’s winner) NTT Communications, PCCW Global, Tata Communications and IDT.

Winners are selected based on industry votes from analysts and telecoms insiders.
