Telecel CEO, Angeline Vere
We’ve just received an email that was sent to Telecel staff this morning by the company CEO, Angeline Vere. In the email to all staff, the CEO confirms that Telecel Zimbabwe has been sold to the Zimbabwean government. She however declined to take any questions from staff saying that the sell is a shareholder matter . Here’s the full email:
Dear colleagues,
I wanted to inform you that our parent companies, Vimpelcom and Global Telecom Holding (GTH), announced earlier today that they have entered into an agreement to sell their (indirectly held) 60% stake in Telecel Zimbabwe to ZARNet, a wholly owned Government entity. Transfer of ownership to ZARNet will occur only after customary conditions are satisfied.
You can read the press release on http://www.vimpelcom.com/
Media-center/Press-releases/ Discussions between our shareholders and ZARNet will continue over the coming months and I will update you as soon as I have further details on the progress.
For us at Telecel, it’s very much business as usual and I ask for your continued hard work, supporting our turnaround plan and serving our customers to the highest Telecel standards.
I realize that you will have questions but at this point it’s a shareholder matter and we must continue to focus on our strategic growth plans and serving our valued customers.
Kind regards,
Angeline Vere
Chief Executive Officer

Hooray, we now have another parastatal…
start your timers…. how long before they go broke and start siphoning tax moolah?
Why wouldnt the gvt invest this money into NetOne??????? This is sooo damn pathetic in my own opinion! At a time when parastats are supposed to be privatised, we see us parastatising private companies. Its a shame…. and like @Dikimende says, now we have started our timers indeed! Only a little while, and Telecel will be one of the most poorly managed telecoms companies
This is pathetic. MTN and another group of local private individuals were turned down. Now the GVT has two of the same? Why own Net One and Telecel when you could promote private investment and increase competition? Is the government being anti competitive by owning the two? What would they have said if Econet went for Telecel? There is something unbecoming about this transaction. It does not help the country not Telecel itself? Is Vere going to be another Reward Kangai, sitting with millions in unpaid government bills and unsettled interchange fees? Could this be a net off of unpaid license fees? It must be otherwise this does not make sense at all!
Correction: now GVT has three of the same. TelOne was granted a GSM license in 2011 http://www.techzim.co.zw/2011/03/potraz-licenses-fourth-mobile-operator-telone/
Bravo!! Supa is a strategist , i actually saw it a long time ago but just could not let it out in the public domain. Government has made a wise investment for a bargain. Infrastructure sharing is now making more sense now. It is now way too easy to implement with Govt owning two of three GsM COMPANIES
Bad news.
This doesnt make any sense at all
This is simple maths
Gvt will soon sell its stake to a consortium led by none other than Supa himself. The kingpin of this whole dubious transaction
Mbavha dziya dzatanga…
Its just business nothing personal kkkkk
…tick tick tick .. to the END of Telecel, .. ha ha ha Tell Someone another NetOne created, base stations at Chiefs Houses and Villages.
Telecel workers u better start looking for jobs while it is day
As usual if modus operandi isnt changed telecel will be run by faithful cadres.
And god help any1 who doesnt conform as they will be called inperialists.
On the other hand if they employ a chipo mtasa then we will be good to go.
Bt gvt does realise if they dont pay the 125million license fee then that money they cant collect dont they.
