ZImbabwe’s telecoms regulator, POTRAZ has just announced that it forcing local mobile network operator NetOne to reverse its data promotions. According to POTRAZ the promotions weren’t approved.

A statement published on its Facebook page reads,

NetOne has been instructed to stop running unapproved promotions with immediate effect by the Regulator. They have also been asked to show cause why they were running an illegal promotion. We will give all consumers feedback on what action would have taken by tomorrow (Friday 20 January)

This announcement comes on the same day that NetOne unveiled a number of changes to its mobile broadband lineup, including the reintroduction of daily bundles that provided subscribers with 300 MB of data for $1.

This isn’t the first time POTRAZ has acted on mobile operator promotions. In 2016 the regulator refused to renew all voice and data promotions run by the country’s mobile networks.

The move affected subscribers who rely on promotions for discounts on data to deal with an already expensive mobile broadband pricing schedule.
