As you may know, Harare City council attempted to take down the Moto Republik hub creative container structure earlier today.
Moto Republik has released a statement to inform the public about what happened. Here’s the full statement:
It is true that today, @cohsunshinecity had intention of demolishing Moto Republik, Zimbabwe’s first creative hub. The demolition was halted after the intervention of the Mayor of Hre & the failure of the police to present a court order.
With all our paperwork in order, plans approved & fees paid, they are still determined to demolish Moto Republik by next week Thursday.
Moto Republik is an inspiring space that came about as a response to a community who needed a space where they could meet, work & collaborate. It has given young creative entrepreneurs a platform to professionalize, network and collaborate on ideas that potentially take us forward.
The space’s core purpose is about building community, inspiring positive progressive thinking & encouraging collaboration. Thank you to all our members & friends for the outpour of emotion & support. You are Moto Republik’s reason for being.
In the meantime assist us in putting pressure on our elected officials, services & the Mayor to stop next week’s intended demolition. #SaveMotoRepublik
