In an email from Hypercube Community circulated to different stakeholders in the tech startup space the community has shared an advert for a Recovery Manager who is supposed to salvage the failed Hypercube Hub project.
The 5-day disruptive event will be Zimbabwe’s first ever multi-day multi-venue Technology Festival (TechFest) and will run under the theme “Collaborative Brilliance: Together Towards Tomorrow”.
In a communication sent out earlier today by Hypercube Hub, the team outlined local economic challenges and a failure to secure the funding necessary for the hub to continue its operations as the reason behind the closure.
Some people don’t know what Muzinda Hub is or what it’s all about. This is despite some links to the most visible local tech company, Econet Wireless. This is likely to change now that Econet has started referencing the hub and the work that it’s doing.
Zimbabwe has a culture of trying to develop overnight success modeled applications, which is not bad in itself but should be moderated. The startups community needs to understand that not every startup is a WhatsApp, and hard work and persistence are what usually pay.
A Zimbabwean tech startup, Esaja.com which was founded by Clinton Mutambo, has been selected for an accelerator program in a Rwandan tech incubator called think. This incubator and these programs are another example of mobile network operators’ in tech startups.
Moto Republik a new creative hub in Harare that will be opening its doors to the public in July this year. An initiative powered by The Magamba Network, it is meant to be a working space and common centre for Zimbabwe’s creatives. The basic membership fee is set at $15
Muzinda Hub, a Zimbabwean tech hub, is now offering digital services and software developer talent. This is a progression from the training that the hub has been offering to 1,000 students that signed up for a free 6-month entrepreneurship and software development course.
