Net*One Goes Green With Solar Powered Base Stations

It’s quite interesting to read news that Zimbabwe’s second largest mobile operator (by number of subscribers) is now using solar energy to power its base stations. Net*One boasts the widest network coverge in Zimbabwe and keeping its large inventory of base stations powered has probably been a challenge, hence the green solution.

Net*One says it will focus on rural areas for now to provide telecommunications infrastructure where access to the national electricity grid is limited. The national power company, ZESA has been struggling to power Zimbabwe with load shedding now commonplace in all parts of the country.

Net*One’s move is a win for its subscribers and will no doubt further Net*One status as the most ‘available’ mobile provider in outlying rural areas.
