Last week, we attended the launch of Mecer Zimbabwe’s new APC distributor status in Harare. The partnership makes them the second official APC distributor in Zimbabwe. The other is Tendo Electronics.
The launch, which lasted 2 days, was attended by APC’s Southern Africa VP, Paolo Miglietta. According to Miglietta, Mecer and Tendo will focus on different APC solution channels and will therefore complement each other. Mecer will be the distributor for 1-Phase power solutions for home and small business use. Tendo on the other hand will sell and implement enterprise data center solutions.
APC South Africa Distribution Account Manager, Gina Santos explained that APC went into this partnership to make it easier for home and small business customers to access 1-phase APC solutions without going through the hassles of importing directly from South Africa. We hope it’ll bring the total cost of acquiring APC products down as well.
APC is a subsidiary of French global company, Schneider Electric. It manufacturers uninterruptible power supplies, electronics peripherals and data center products.
In addition to the APC partnership, Mecer Zimbabwe announced its new Verbatim official reseller status.
Are we the only ones that think the name ‘Mecer’ seems a bit out of line with Mecer Zimbabwe’s business here? Mecer is the brand name of a range of PCs, Notebooks, Servers, peripherals and accessories assembled and distributed by South Africa technology company Mustek. It would make more sense to have a non product-specific name if you’re going to distribute products from different manufacturers.
