Google Libya Search

Google Libya SearchAccording to Google Insights for Search, the Zimbabwean and Mozambican Google domains have registered a significant increase in the search for the term “Libya” in the period from January 2011 to March 2011.

Google Insights for Search is a tool to analyse the search trends on Google domains world over. The tool computes the number of searches done for given search terms relative to the total number of searches done on the popular search engine over time.

A search for rising searches over the period from January 2011 to March 2011 shows that the term “Libya” has risen by a “Breakout” percentage. When a search term is listed as a “Breakout” instead of an actual percentage, it means that the search term has experienced a change in growth greater than 5,000%.

The only search term ahead of Zimbabwe in the Breakout group is “facebooklogin”, Zimbabwe’s number one rising search term.

Google Search Trends (Jan - March 2011)One might argue that the search term “Libya” is currently common interest for more than just Zimbabweans and Mozambicans. Google search trends in other southern African countries however show they’re not Googling “Libya” much.

Search trends results for South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya don’t have “Libya” anywhere in the top ten search terms. South Africa for example has “Japan earthquake”, “cricket” and “matric results” amoung other terms.
