Local business incubator Emerging Ideas played host to the first monthly Pitch Nights for 2014 yesterday evening at the Celebration Center in Harare. The Pitch Night is a platform were three entrepreneurs present their business ideas in four minutes before a crowd of like minded people.
Yesterday’s event was well attended and three entrepreneurs presented their ideas which all generally received positive feedback.
The Dream Big Diary
Ignatius Munengwa presented an idea in action called the Dream Big Diary which is primarily a diary that comes with career guidance and educational tools. The Diary presents 52 career opportunities for each week of the year and the hope is students can use this toolkit to make the best career decisions. The idea was well received and Ignatius Munengwa announced that plans are already underway for a digital version with collaboration from Astro.
Emergency 24/7
Taka Chidyausiku pitched an emergency services android app called Emergency 24/7. The app (still at beta version) will let users send distress messages to emergency services with one touch of a button. The app is said to have GPS tracking that enables the emergency services provider to pin point the exact location where the distress call was made. Unfortunately this presentations did not come with a demo but if it does what it says it does, this app will likely be fighting for attention with the Road Angels Assist app that went live a few days ago.
Yap Yap multi-response call/contact center
Annabell Gakaka from Cyrex Business presented the “Yap Yap” call/contact center with is primarily a call center that however has add-ons to the standard inbound and outbound outsourced call management. Yap Yap which is already operational at a pilot level also includes social response (responding to client enquiries made on social media), online reputation management and outsourced social media engagement.
The next Pitch Night will be held on 27 February 2014 at The Basement, Celebration Center in Harare. To register for a pitch, send an email to pitch@emergingideas.com.
