Angeline Vere and Webster Shamu
Telecel Zimbabwe MD, Angeline Vere, demos the mobile money service to Zimbabwe ICT Minister, Webster Shamu, at the Telecash official launch.

We just attended the Telecash official launch in Harare where the company unveiled to the public their new mobile money service. We live-tweeted the event from our official Twitter handle so make sure you follow us for such updates. The launch was attended by Zimbabwe’s ICT Minister, Webster Shamu, the ministry’s perm sec Sam Kundishora, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe officials, and Telecel key partners on this project that include Afrasia Bank, ZimSwitch and others.

At the event Mobile Financial Services Director, Nkosinathi Ncube, took the attendees through the features of the new service, stressing more on how Telecash much more convenient to use that competing products that have been on the market (EcoCash and OneWallet that is), as well as it being much cheaper for the subscribers to use.

We covered Telecash in detail yesterday, and even did a podcast today. Not much new was presented today aside from the fact that the powers that be are very very happy with Telecel’s interoperability approach to mobile money. The ICT Minister, Webster Shamu also discussed a bit about the founding of Telecel and how he, as part of the war veterans, Phillip Chiyangwa, James Makamba and other locals, came to be shareholders. He affirmed that Telecel as a company is close to his life.

Here are a few pictures we took at the event. You can view the full gallery on our Facebook page here.
