To remove this barrier this week, Github announced that it is opening up its platform to students for free. Yup, you don’t pay anything to take your repositories private if you’re a student. but it’s not just Github itself, they are bundling some 13 services to a Student Developer Pack.
The following: Atom, Bitnami, Crowdflower, DigitalOcean, DNSimple, HackHands, Namecheap, Orchestrate, Screenhero, SendGrid, Stripe, Travis CI, Unreal Engine.
We’re not sure yet just how global this is in terms of being open to any student anywhere, but we’re guessing it is. To sign up, you either use your university issued email address, upload a copy of your student ID card, or your proof of enrollment.
if you’re student, please do try it out (and you should, such opportunities come rare) and let us know in the comments what your experience is.
