Here’s Telecel’s statement regarding its provisional order from the High Court

Zimbabwean Telecoms

Earlier today Telecel Zimbabwe was granted a provisional order by the High Court of Zimbabwe. This effectively bars the action taken by POTRAZ, the local telecoms regulator to cancel its operations. Telecel issued a very brief statement regarding the interdict, and you can check it below.

Statement from Telecel ZImbabwe regarding its licence and the order from the High Court of Zimbabwe

Today the High Court of Zimbabwe granted an interdict suspending the cancellation of the Company’s licence to provide national cellular telecommunications services, pending Telecel Zimbabwe’s appeals on the matter. On behalf our of customers, employees, and global stakeholders, we are pleased with this outcome and applaud the prompt and fair manner in which the legal system is dealing with the unfair cancellation of our licence. We trust that after a full and fair hearing, our license will be restored permanently so we can continue to serve our customers to a high standard and without disruption.

Telecel clients remain our primary focus and we consider the granted interdict as a significant move in the interests of the Zimbabwean people and the country. We are fully committed to working in Zimbabwe and further developing its telecommunications market. Had we not received today’s interdict, it would have been devastating for our customers, the Zimbabwean economy and our stakeholders.

Focus now should really be on Telecel regularizing it’s operating conditions as opposed to spending time on press statements which are frankly going to achieve anything. You have been given a lifeline and so it’s time to put your act together.
