Afrosoft introduces Instapay, a mobile app for buying prepaid ZESA tokens

ZESA prepaid Tokens , Afrosoft Zimbabwe, Zimbabwean apps

Here’s some good news for you if you are looking for yet another convenient option for buying ZESA prepaid electricity tokens online – Afrosoft, one of the major local software development outfits recently launched a mobile application that does just that.

Called Instapay, it allows users to buy prepaid electricity as well as airtime for all three mobile networks (Econet, Telecel and NetOne) with the option to make the payment via EcoCash and Telecash.

You can download the Instapay app by following this link to the Google Play store.

Judging from the promo video on Afrosoft’s Facebook page there’ll also be Visa and MasterCard options though we couldn’t get those in the version that’s currently available from Google Play.

This sort of service isn’t new, other than the mobile banking apps, there’s now a handful of reliable online solutions for ZESA (Magetsi, Telpay, Topup etc) that have integrated mobile money payment solutions (EcoCash is the game changer here) which are a major element in Zimbabwe’s electronic payments space.

Instapay’s point of difference is, of course, the fact that it’s an independent  mobile application which is a lot easier to navigate through than the whole URL access that you need for the other payment options that are out there.

It’s the value proposition that TelOne missed with its recently launched mobile app which, through an integration with its Telpay service, it could have easily provided.

More than just ZESA & airtime

It would be great if a desktop version (there’s that large number of non-Android users) and Instapay iOS app are also rolled out but beyond the need to have a service for every Zimbabwean there’s also the opportunity to add the options for other services and utilities.

A single independent mobile app (don’t need to have a bank account to use it) that handles ZESA, water payments and prepaid purchases, internet services, DStv plus other common bills at the tap of a button would be mighty convenient.

There are more than 10 apps and websites doing EXACTLY the same thing, selling airtime and ZETDC tokens. In a proper IT landscape, ZESA itself should have the ONE and ONLY official app for buying ZETDC tokens. There’s a lot of middlemanning happening here, at the expense of the consumer. On mobile banking apps, you are charged an extra $2 to buy power, yet they should be getting their cut from the API provider.

I’ve seen this trend many times in our country. Someone starts something, everyone wants to do the exact same thing. There isn’t even any innovation in the clones, its like for like.
