Telecel has successfully integrated its mobile money platform Telecash directly with ZESA allowing its subscribers the convenience to make prepaid ZESA purchases from the comfort of their mobile devices anywhere and anytime.
Speaking on the significance of the integration, Telecel’s Head of Mobile Financial Services, Ms Violet Masunda made the following statement:
The addition of ZESA prepaid tokens under the Telecash menu increases the number of payments, purchases and transactions that can be carried out from the phone which we believe is what customers are looking for in a mobile financial platform like Telecash
To access the service, Telecash users have to follow these steps:
- Dial *888# to access TeleCash menu
- Option 1: ZESA Prepaid
- Option 2: Buy Token
- Enter Your meter number
- Enter Purchase amount
- Confirm purchase
Telecash now joins NetOne’s One Wallet and Econet’s EcoCash as yet another mobile operator offering the option to buy prepaid electricity direct from ZESA.
The option to pay for ZESA via TeleCash first popped up back in 2015 when they were piloting a trial version. Somewhere along the way we guess the option became a semi-permanent because only this year the option was actually pulled down.
The reason for its disappearance are still unknown, we can only speculate that it was for the purpose of direct integration with Powertel who distribute ZESA tokens as was the case with EcoCash who recently started offering prepaid ZESA after they too integrated, now all mobile operators in Zimbabwe are live and directly integrated with Powertel/ZESA.
