POTRAZ, the local telecoms regulator is set to put into effect new minimum prices for all voice and data services provided by Zimbabwe’s mobile network operators.
According to a report in the Herald, the floor price will be 12 cents per minute for voice services and 2cents per MB for data. POTRAZ is reported to have communicated the new prices to mobile operators and they are set to come into effect on the 9th of January 2017.
The change means that some packages will become more expensive making this the latest move by POTRAZ to protect mobile operators’ revenues.
Mobile operators are supposed to revise all their products in line with the new prices and terminate bundles that don’t conform to the new minimum prices.
This means that some of the bundles that subscribers has been using as a way of accessing cheaper communications will be terminated. Products likely to be hiked include cheaper offerings like NetOne’s OneFusion and Econet’s 250 MB/$1; 1GB / $2 and 2GB/$3 Daily Bundles.

Ma one, this may have a negative effect as well,
But has this govt ever prescribed anything good for Zimbabweans? Gimme one example .
That will never happen
$20 for 1000mb as the cheapest. Wow! 2017 is this you?
think its I’ll advised yes data must fall but the bundles exist for short bursts when you need to use a lot. but then I. zim they other forces as this effectively makes WhatsApp and Facebook hella expensive
Well Zimbabwe will now have the most expensive data in the World. And a way of controlling as most people communicate on social media now and not voice. There is always a catch isn’t there?
what is going to happen to other broadband data providerslike Powertel ,Zol etc,so their data bundles will be more expensive? Potraz must explain properly
Its to “protect mobile operatiors’ revenues”
no more unlimited data.wow?
Keyword mobile. You can expect this to affect traditional MNOs
Time To Adjust On Our daily Internet browsing, this means less revenue to POTRAZ itself.
The idea is to restrict social media access . . . even herdmen are on whatsapp. that will tilt elections the Trump way. They are getting ready, so revenues mean nothing to them than lose power .. . .
Madness
The government is reactionary to the power of social media and social movements.
Zwinosiririsaaaa izvi.Vashayaaa basa
do they have to prescribe business solutions to these MNOs,i thought they were there to regulate the industry not to tell them about how to price almost everything.

How are they going to get revenue if they charge more on data which will not be accessible to the masses? Less people, less revenue.
These guys in the telecoms industry should just accept the fact that change is inevitable. Same thing like protecting Telone landline business by suppressing mobile operators. Either they like or not, change is coming through.
The mobile operators should be agile enough to adapt to global changes. I wonder how they will protect the taxi industry when Uber comes through.
