Facebook Community Challenge: A Chance For You To Win Part Of US$165000

Messenger Bots meetup Facebook Developer Circle

Around the middle of July 2017, a new tech community was created and launched by Facebook in Harare. The community is called Developer Circles though its doors are open to both developers and non-developers. The main purpose of the community is to create a place for people to learn new or old Facebook technologies and now Facebook has got a community challenge for you to do just that and stand a chance to win a part of US$165 000 in prizes.

The Facebook Developer Circle Harare will be hosting a community challenge hack day where you’ll get to a build solution that falls under 1 of the following categories:

  • Improve your craft – A product that helps developers code and improve their skills
  • Get it done – A product that makes work easier or more productive for developers
  • Community – A product that helps developers connect

Your solution will have to use at least one of 12 Facebook technologies. After seeing that list, you might be a little intimidated like me especially if you haven’t used most or any of the mentioned technologies. Well, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know any code or what those things on that list are.

Just like the previous event that Developer Circle Harare held where people got an introduction to building messenger bots, you’ll be in a team for this community challenge too.

As I mentioned earlier, the community is open to both developers and non-developers, in fact, if you’re not a developer, you’re actually more encouraged to come as you’ll bring a unique perspective to the whole challenge given how it’ll be your first time building with some of these technologies.

So if you’re not already a part of the Developer Circle Harare, just head over to their Facebook group and request to join the community which is free of charge by the way. The Facebook group is where you’ll have most of your communication with other members concerning upcoming events etc.

Once you’ve joined and made sure you’re eligible, find a teammate and collaborate with them on a solution. After you’ve built your solution, you’ll be required to create a 2-minute video (hosted on YouTube, Vimeo, or Youku) demonstrating the solution, take screenshots of the functioning app and provide a way to access your working application for judging and testing by providing a mobile test build, a link to a live website, or a demo site where the application is deployed.

When you’ve got everything in order, you should submit your solution at developercircles.devpost.com by the deadline November 20th, 2017 at 10:00 PM ET. The Developer Circle Harare community challenge HackDay could be the day you decide to get together with your teammates at that meetup to build your solution together and see other teams do that also.
