Did you know that every radio channel on ZBC is now streaming to the internet? Well they are, have been doing so for a while now through mobile apps. We will look under the hood on the different apps soon. ZTV started streaming the news and other programmes apparently live on Facebook. This is a good story.
I recently (yesterday) had a chat with the Acting Head of Digital Media and Broadcasting Technology- cool guy. I was impressed by his drive and the clarity of his vision for the national broadcaster on cyber. Digital cannot be ignored or treated as a good to have for any media business anymore, it’s a must have otherwise some new comer kid operating in their bedroom will come and eat the established media business’ lunch.
So coll guy mentioned that ZBC is recruiting for two interesting positions. First, they are looking for an ICT Technician who will report to the Chief ICT Technician in their Engineering Department. The person will obviously be doing ‘techniciany’ stuff like:
- diagnosing network and systems problems,
- collecting IT usage stats,
- configuring and installing IT solutions,
- assisting staff with everyday IT needs.
This person has to have a degree in Computer Science or IT from a recognised university or college (obviously), certificates in IT, CCNA, Cyberoam, Microsoft, Linux. They must have at least 3 years experience in a similar position with a strong bias on network and ERP systems.
Secondly, they are looking for two technicians. These will do the following:
- equipment maintenance and repairs,
- monitoring and controlling signal quality,
- manning the control room (this involves shifts),
- outside broadcasting duties,
- research and development.
The people they are looking for must have a degree in Electronic Engineering or a Diploma in Radio Communications. They must have at least two years work experience.
If you want to join ZBC as they position themselves better in the digital space you can send your CV and your certificates to humanresources@zbc.co.zw by the 5th of December (next Tuesday). Good luck.

What good does an ICT specialist do at a company with 20 year old technology…?
Express your experience by proposing new technologies as a ICT specialist to the project manager
There in less your problem… If you can’t see potential
