African startups have been invited to apply for the DEMO Africa 2018 award and stand a chance to win $150 000 along with a trip to the Silicon Valley in order

The DEMO Africa initiative is actually run by Lions@frica and is meant to help connect African startups with the global ecosystem.

Full scholarship will be awarded to 30 indivuduals or groups who have meaningful new technologies that are ready for debut to the worldwide audience of Demo. For startups who have working prototypes of their innovation, this is a chance to maybe even get other investors interested as the audience there will come from various different countries.

In their own words DEMO Africa is:

a launch pad for emerging technology and trends, attracting over 2000 people from around the globe to experience the finest African innovations. Selected new technology products are introduced to an audience of investors, technology buyers, corporate acquirers, strategic partners, global press and prolific bloggers. DEMO Africa is part of the global DEMO network. DEMO, originally the premier conference for companies from around the world to launch new products or technologies at North American events, has now established a powerful international network of launch events, in China, Singapore, Brazil and Africa. DEMO Africa continues this world-class pedigree of consistently identifying new bankable technology start-ups.

The event itself….

The event will be held in Morocco and will run on the 18th and 19th of October this year so startups have ample time to prepare. The deadline for applications is just around the corner: 15 June, 2018.

Selected finalists will actually get to spend four days at the event, not two. They will spend the first two days at the Lions@frica bootcamp, then if selected will spend two more days at the final event. Leading up to the main event, finalists will be engaged in a virtual bootcamp for 6 weeks with a variety of deliverables, mentoring, coaching and feedback.

The 5 startups that are awarded by Demo Africa will be sponsored to an all-expenses paid trip to Silicon Valley (California, USA). There the startups will be a part of the Lions@frica Tour where they will receive further exposure to a broader innovation ecosystem and get a chance to intereact with leading Sillicon Valley stakeholders.
