These startups Won the first round of the DEMO Africa Innovation Tours in their cities, they will join other startups to battle it up in Morocco in October 2018.
Accra, Ghana
10th July 2018 – DEMO Africa partnered with MEST Africa in making the Ghana, Accra Innovation Tour a success. Three startups – Complete Farmer, Devless and RedBird were selected from a group of 9 startups that pitched for a chance to vie for the West Africa representative at the DEMO Africa launch event in Morocco, this October.
Complete Farmer is an Agritech startup which provides remarkable and innovative agribusiness solutions to clients to enhance productivity, increase profitability and help them gain competitive advantage across the agricultural value chain. DevLess provides an easy to use Data Storage for web and mobile applications as well as application objects that reduce the amount of code that developers write to handle complex functionalities of their apps. RedBird is a health tech which partners with pharmacies and licensed chemical shops to bring them proven rapid test technology for chronic and acute conditions, enabling them to expand their business, and giving patients a convenient way to monitor their health, wherever they are.
Cote d’Ivoire
11th July 2018 – The DEMO Africa West African tour has ended with a bang seeing three promising startups being selected nationally to represent Ivory Coast on the second round of the competition. In an event held at Ovillage the tour was made successful by DEMO Africa’s partnership with Adei Institute of Technology. From an outstanding startups pitch session, Maurice Communication Marketing, EtuDesk and WeFlyAgri were pronounced winners of the Cote d’Ivoire tour.
Maurice Communication Marketing showcased, pass santes mousso a jewel (bracelet or medallion) which is connected to an online platform to allow patients/individuals to take around their personal and medical data. The jewel is an emergency response tool which helps make available the data collected to the attending medical and emergency personnel. EtuDesk is an e-learning web application that helps academic institutions, organisations and companies to set up their online learning programmes easily and at low cost. WeFlyAgri is an agritech solution that gives farmers control of their land, allowing them to see and manage it without moving. With the use of drones and an integrated easy-to-use software farmers can remotely monitor their farms and identify inefficiencies in production for better management of their land.
Cape Town, South Africa
The DEMO Africa second leg of the South Africa tour, Cape Town saw many promising start-ups attending the event to pitch. The event that was hosted by Legazy and DEMO Africa at the UCT Solutions Space saw team Reginize being selected as the Cape Town winners.
Reginize is a recycling collections company which rewards people for recycling and also educates them about the benefits of recycling. With RE in their name standing for reduce, reuse or recycle and GEN standing for generation, the team showcased an application that allows them to collect recyclable material for transformation and also educate this generation about the benefits of recycling.
