I am pretty sure that we constantly need to transfer airtime to other people. So what do you do in the event that the airtime you want to send is not in your mobile money wallet (i.e EcoCash, TeleCash and OneMoney) but in fact in your balance? Well it’s a pretty simple process and after this hopefully you are never left in the cold.
Steps to transfer airtime on Econet using USSD:
- Dial *111#
- Pick Transfer Airtime (Option 4) and press enter/ok
- Enter the number of the receiver and press enter/ok
- Enter the amount you wish to send (minimum $1) and press enter/ok
Steps to transfer airtime on NetOne using USSD:
- Dial *171#
- Pick Services (Option 7)
- Pick Credit Transfer (Option 2)
- Enter the number of the receiver and press enter/ok
- Enter the amount you wish to send and press enter/ok
Steps to transfer airtime on Telecel using USSD:
- Dial *178#
- Pick Transfer Airtime (option 1) and press enter/ok
- Enter the amount you wish to send (25c minimum)
- Enter the number of the receiver and press enter/ok
Weirdly enough, Telecel is the only mobile network provider that charges the sender for making transferring airtime to another subscriber. There’s a 2c charge for sending airtime which means that in order to send $1 you have to have a balance of $1.02 or higher and that was baffling to me. But hey, it is what it is.
Moving airtime from your credit balance straight to another subscriber is really a simple process that shouldn’t really be as confusing as it but due to the fact that the MNOs aren’t really advertising these USSD codes it’s really a hassle.

For a minute there…8 thought I’d was netone to Econet cause of the 111…I think we need a directory for all these codes
Thanks for such important news!!
The codes are okay but the Network providers cannot or they will not process any requests to transfer credit
