Pycon Zimbabwe 2018 is underway and the Python convention will be running over the course of two days (today and tomorrow). Bitmari has partnered with the organisers and they will be hosting the “Mbare Musika Hackathon” tomorrow as part of the Pycon convention.
The hackathon is being held in collaboration with the traders from Mbare musika. The challenge of the hackathon is to create value addition for traders. According to the application form for the hackathon:
Due to inadequate storage facilities and lack of capacity to add value to farm produce, traders sometimes end up losing their perishables and money. Come up with a solution that will help traders get the most out of their farm produce.
Judging from the description it sounds like Bitmari are indeed in touch with the problems that traders face. Even cooler is the fact that the participants will get to pitch to a panel made up of Mbare musika traders so the judges will very much have knowledge and attachment with the problems being solved. I don’t think you’ll be able to nerd your way around this one, participants.
Rules
Well, there’s not much in the way of rules. You can work in teams or as an individual and the prize money at stake is $250.
