You can root for these 7 Zim teams competing at PUBG African tournament

Leonard Sengere Avatar

It was just a few months ago when we were talking about how the African video game industry is projected to reach $1 billion in revenue in 2024, up from $862 million in 2022. Here’s how Zimbos are getting in on the action.

La Cup D’Africana says its “The 1st African PUBG Mobile Community Cup”. Apparently, it holds the record for being the first PUBG Mobile African tournament.

They say PUBG is the most played mobile battle royale game in Africa. I’m with my fellow Africans here, it’s PUBG over Fortnite in my opinion.

This being Africa, it makes sense that the La Cup D’Africana chose the mobile platform.

Season 1 of the tournament was held back in 2020. In that season, 924 teams registered with a total of 5544 players and the festivities garnered over 500,000 views.

Season 2 is upon us and unfortunately, you won’t be able to register to participate as a player anymore. However, you will be able to watch the festivities and you should because a Zimbabwean team will be participating.

Here’s the schedule:

As you can see, Wildcard registration closed yesterday. From today, the 11th till the 14th, invited teams will be submitting their rosters.

Team Zimbabwe’s invited teams are these:

We will update on how you can watch the tournament and root for your fellow Zimbabweans.

I haven’t played PUBG or Fortnite. These is are newer games. I have watched clips of them though, there is a craze over them. The internet is now more widespread.

These games owe a lot to World of War Craft, Counter Strike and Quake.

Last time I heard Fortnite was being removed from Google or was leaving, but I don’t know if its on the Playstore anymore. I guess politics is everywhere, but at least they have Fortnite and full bellies. Anything with mass attraction, raises eyebrows, and you pray you are on the right side, if not, you have to have fast servers with lots of capacity. Games make silicon scream.
