They say imitation is the best form of flattery which I guess means Apple should be flattered. The smartphone industry has found heavy inspiration from Apple, even when it’s Ill-advised.
ZTE borrowed from Apple’s homework with the Live Island. It was shamelessly copied inspired by iOS’s Dynamic Island.
Seeing as Apple borrows from others’ homework too I think it’s fair game. Let the copyfest continue and we, the consumers get to enjoy all features on all phones.
Crafty ZTE
That said, I believe ZTE is playing some games here. See, the Live Island is nice and all but I’ve noticed that ZTE takes some obviously Apple-like features and designs and smacks them onto its budget devices.
I’ve tested the Live Island on ZTE phones that cost less than $100. In my tinfoil hat I think ZTE is trying to cheapen the Apple look.
It’s worse so when it comes to hardware design. We’ve shown off a few ZTE phones in the $100 range that look like the iPhone from the back.
However, you find that ZTE mostly uses original designs on its own flagship devices. There’s few of the Apple-inspired stuff there.
I think they want you to subconsciously associate Apple design with ‘budget’. Something the fruit company would hate. Well played ZTE.
Anyway, take a look at the Live Island on ZTE phones.
What’s your take?
