Another high profile website hacked, this time it’s Fingaz

We have been alerted by readers to the hacking of yet another high profile website in Zimbabwe, that of the Financial Gazette, www.financialgazette.co.zw. Our checks show that the website was hacked on Friday, 4 January 2013, and remains compromised at the time of posting this article.

ZOL website hacked

Today we woke up to the tip that the website of one of the largest internet service providers in the country, Zimbabwe Online (ZOL) had been hacked. Checking the website, we got the screenshot below:

Ubuntu comes to smartphones. OS optimized for entry level smartphones

Canonical, the company behind the Ubuntu operating system, has announced the introduction of a smartphone version of its Linux based operating system. According to reports, the new operating system has been built around existing Android kernel and drivers which means existing Android device manufacturers can take advantage of the new free mobile OS.

Earlier today, we posted an article noting that popular local entertainment blog Zimbo Jam, had been hacked. The website has since been fixed, but it turns out they were not the only website on the server that was hacked. Another local website herzimbabwe.co.zw, was also hacked. The information was availed to us via our Facebook page after we posted the Zimbo Jam news.

Zim information minister calls for regulation of the internet, social media

A report in today’s Herald newspaper says Zimbabwe’ Media, Information and Publicity Minister, Webster Shamu, has called for the “appropriate regulation of the internet and new media platforms”. The Minister, according to the report, is calling for this because the potential of the internet to cause strife in society.

Press Release: EcoCash now in OK Zimbabwe Limited stores

Zimbabwe’s largest supermarket chain, OK Zimbabwe Limited, has become the first major retailer to be connected to EcoCash, Econet Wireless’ mobile money service. OK has assumed an EcoCash “Super-Agent” status, and will be performing agent services for EcoCash throughout its branches across the country. Under this partnership, every OK outlet will now register customers for EcoCash and also perform cashing in and cashing out functions for EcoCash.
