This means recipients in Zimbabwe have the option to get their remittances sent straight to their Telecash mobile money wallet, something that widens Mama Money’s payout network which has already gained a national presence through a strategic relationship with CABS and its Textacash service.
According to Nadir Khamissa the Hello Group CEO, in the past 6 months, Hello Paisa has grown by 500% and so far it has registered over 70,000 sign ups who use the service to send money from South Africa to Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan and Zimbabwe.
As it turns out, Tengai is still alive, well the brand name at least. It is listed together with Ownai, EcoSure and EcoCash, on the website of a digital transactions company called Cassava which is a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Global as one of its successful partner brands.
Despite the service’s huge potential Telecash has been rather quiet about the service without any major promotion for it – Until recently when it sent out SMSes encouraging people to receive money through Hello Paisa for collection from Telecash agents.
