Steward Bank, the financial services institution owned by local mobile network operator Econet Wireless published its most impressive set of financial results to date with its first-ever annual profit.
Econet’s entire Mobile Financial Services division which includes services like EcoSure brought in $87 million with EcoCash contributing $73 million up from its revenue total of $61 million the year before. This $73 million haul constituted 11% of Econet’s total revenue for the year.

According to an invitation that we’ve just received from the local mobile operator Econet Wireless, it will be launching a new remittance partnership between its mobile money service EcoCash and MTN Zambia’s MTN Mobile Money.

Afrocoin, an international money transfer outfit that came onto the scene a few years ago with remittances, money transfer and airtime top-up services has announced its new partnership with EcoCash Diaspora, the remittance service arm handled by Econet’s mobile money service company EcoCash.
Your Ecocash Mobile money wallet is synced with the sticker. When you want to make a payment you tap the sticker device against the merchant or vendor’s enabled micro Point of Sale (POS) device and the relevant amount is deducted from your EcoCash wallet.
So why were the transfers suspended in the first place?
Pre-paid allows users to send there ZESA account details, the amount they wish to buy and their phone number through an online interface. This is followed by a prompt for payment through EcoCash or Telecash via SMS. You can make transactions of between $2 and $490.
