Yesterday, we attended a press briefing for the Apps4Africa Climate Challenge that’s taking place today in Harare at The Media Centre. Doing the briefing was Mariéme Jamme, who is part of the organizing team of the Challenge and will also be facilitating today’s brainstorming session.
Today, 1 February 2012, is the commencement date for the southern Africa region Apps4Africa Climate Challenge. A few days ago we visited Dariro, a new startup building what we can describe as a ‘local pages’ web platform. The website is still in beta and it’s live on Dariro.com. The website also provides a platform for developers to build their own applications. The Dariro founder is Richwell Phinias, an internet marketing entrepreneur.

One of the biggest Internet service providers in Zimbabwe, Africom, launched a VSAT teleport hub in Harare this morning. The teleport, pictured on the left, was installed with the help of SkyVision Global Networks, a global provider of IP connectivity over satellite systems.
