Very few of us are using foldable phones. 99.99% of us are using a phone like the one below:
That’s not a real phone by the way. I asked ChatGPT to create a generic looking smartphone and that’s what it spewed out.
Why are you buying this generic design that’s now stale if we’re being honest? Aren’t you in love with foldables? Or are they too expensive or fragile for your liking?
Samsung was a pioneer in the foldable space, which is struggling to replace the old slab style phone. The Korean giant is not out of ideas though. They think, maybe you’re just not a fan of the single foldables but might be interested in other form factors.
First off, maybe you’re a fan of the single-folds but think they are too small. For you, Samsung is working on an 18.1-inch foldable.
That should do it, right? Still no? Well, don’t sweat it, you still might find something to tickle your fancy.
Maybe you want to see one more fold on these things. Kind of like Huawei’s tri-folding phone (which folds twice).
Samsung might have you covered there too with this.
There are rumours it could launch this year. Is this more of what you were looking for? No?
Maybe you’re just not into folding phones. Well, Samsung is not giving up on you. How do you feel about rolling phones and tablets?
This one is called the Slidable Flex Vertical. It is a compact little 5.1 inch phone, smaller than pretty much any phone. However, it rolls out to 6.7 inches to match the huge phones we are used to today.
Still no? You were looking for something bigger than phones in its final form? Sammy’s got ya.
This is the Slidable Flex Duet. It has a screen that extends from 8.1 inches to 12.4 inches. From small tablet to large tablet in seconds. It’s called a Duet because it extends from both sides.
I hear you. That’s way too small. Samsung heard you too and is working on this too:
It’s called the Slidable Flex Solo and it has a screen that expands one way from 13 inches to 17.3 inches. So from large tablet to mini TV or monitor, basically.
If none of this tickles your fancy then I guess you won’t be tempted from your slab phone.
These devices are sliding, rolling and folding to be the Transformer Samsung thought you wanted but if none of this sounds cool then the projects are dead in the water.
What’s your take?
