In a nutshell, we do this to make buying a phone in Zimbabwe safer and easier!
Every day, Zimbabweans buy phones that aren’t what they seem. There’s:
- Counterfeit/fake phones
- Refurbished phones sold as “brand new and boxed”
- Stolen devices after which they run the risk of getting arrested any time.
- Overpriced phones with inflated specs
- Phones without proper warranty support
We started selling mobile phones to solve these problems. No one should be anxious about buying something as common as a mobile phone.
Our promise
Authenticity: every phone we sell is:
- 100% genuine
- Brand new
Warranty:
- We provide 12-month warranty on every phone we sell. This warranty is provided by Techzim itself
- Why? Because, except for a few, international manufacturers generally don’t have warranty centres in Zimbabwe.
- We take on the risk so our customers don’t have to
A short story: A phone purchase that went terribly wrong
A few years ago, a friend of ours went through a nightmare that’s unfortunately too common in Zimbabwe.
He had done what many of us do – bought what seemed to be a perfectly good smartphone from a seller with a small smartphone business at the Zimpost mall. The phone was genuine and brand new – exactly what was promised.
But there was a hidden danger.
The phone had been stolen from a legitimate retailer. When police tracked the device, they had no choice but to arrest Wonder. He spent two terrifying days and nights in police custody while investigations took place, despite being completely unaware he had purchased a stolen device. We had to visit him at the police cells during that time and we worked with the police to help track down the seller.
Eventually, using a “we want to buy a phone” trap, police were able to catch the seller. But the damage was done. An honest guy had faced arrest, detention, and trauma – all for simply trying to buy a phone.
Unfortunately, such stories are all too common. Even team members here at Techzim have experienced it:
- Don’t make the same mistakes I made buying a second-hand phone. Do this first!
- Here’s the Ximex con, or how the price of a phone goes up because of a box
- You shouldn’t buy a phone from China online unless you have no other option
This is why we exist.
We believe no Zimbabwean should ever face arrest, buy a fake phone, be stuck with a bad smartphone without warranty, buy a phone that was never meant for Zimbabwean networks.
