Zimbabwe’s largest classifieds site classifieds.co.zw just got a new look. The site’s has generally been redesign to look like the company’s social network site Sha! This means a simpler, cleaner look and somewhat more usable than the old one. The logo has also been redesigned along the lines of the Sha logo.
That aside one of the main noticeable changes is the social media integration with Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest. Visitors to the new classifieds can now like, tweet, plus or pin the ads to these social networks. This is likely to significantly increase traffic to the website. The one aspect of social media integration lacking though, which would have increased even more the visibility of the site’s links outside its walls, is Facebook and Twitter login as well as an option for an advertiser to post their ad to Facebook or Tweet it when they create it. The two social networks have become very popular locally, especially Facebook.
We found it quite ironic that the new design doesn’t incorporate a “Share it on Sha” button along with the other social media buttons on user adverts. Maybe it’s coming in the future. Or maybe Sha hasn’t done well enough to afford it developer time beyond having the 4 Sha links at the top of each page.
The “ads on email” feature introduced 5 months ago is also more prominent now, showing an increasing desire to tap into the email market of that its main competition locally, Dipleague, dominates.
Mobile continues to be a challenge at classifieds as the website still doesn’t have a mobile version, despite the clear need for one.
On the whole, we love the new design. It’s definitely cleaner. We notice it’s a tad slower than the old one but we’re not sure yet if that’s just us. Try it out and let us know what you think.
Classifieds is owned by Webdev, one of the first and oldest web companies in Zimbabwe. According to Google’s Doubleclick Ad Planner, the website gets about 11 million page views a month making it one of Zimbabwe’s most visited websites along with news sites like herald.co.zw.

i would recommend the categories &
sub_categories to have conditional javascript or ajax scripts to drop down the sub categories as a list on mouse over or single click.having all categories and sub categories appearing by default, makes the home page a bit cluttered.
Thats the conventional approach for such a site and is fine just like that, IMHO. Craiglist, Yahoo etc have a similar approach. Makes things findable. Thats what you want in a classified site
well Yahoo failed, personally I think if you are going to copy copy from the best. I am a bit disaapointed. Just cause it targeted at Zim doesn’t have to be substandard……the next best ownai, “econet’s baby on steroids” looks slek but lacks functionality and responsiveness

looks good much better feel than the old one, but chek out this new Classifieds site http://www.zimcart.com it has a mobile feature, you can login using Faceboook, you can share your advert using social media facilities and has a great feel as well
