Starlink has increased the Standard kit price from $350 to now $389 in Zimbabwe and other countries in Africa.
The price for the Mini kit remains at $200 and is still available to order, if you’re not in Harare and surrounding areas at least.
We have confirmed that the price increase has also affected Kenya, and Malawi.
Other African countries Mozambique, Botswana and Nigeria have not been affected. It’s not clear why Starlink has increased hardware prices, and specifically for the Standard kit.
The Standard Kit generally offers better speed than the Mini. According to Starlink, it can also can endure extreme weather and environment elements better.
Starlink charges different prices for its hardware across the world. The Standard kit used to be priced at about $600 at the beginning of 2024, but the company drastically reduced prices, charging as little as $300 in some places like the USA and $350 in Africa.

In the USA, the company also charges a $100 “congestion fee” for areas that have high demand. The congestion fee has not been introduced in Africa though were several cities (Harare, Lagos, Nairobi, Lusaka) have sold out.

We have no control over it of course
Is the price increase affecting those who paid 50 dollar deposits as well or only those attempting to make new purchase?
When something is new in the market the price is always high. By the end of 2025 the standard price will be as low as $25.00, that is if our government will not impose taxes on the kits.
Great
How do I change a standard kit that’s on roaming?
Follow the instructions on the Starlink help section on transferring service to a different country.there is no simpler way though
